In accordance with Sonic the Hedgehog's 25th birthday, SEGA treated everyone on the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 to a demo of the upcoming title Sonic Generations.
Sonic Generations is a game that melds both the original Sonic character and new Sonic together in a collection of the most impressive levels from Sonic history. As for voted by the fans, we'll see such favourites as the Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone and City Escape.
For this demo though, we were only treated to the Green Hills Zone - Act 1. The level started out much like I remembered it from the original Sonic the Hedgehog game but by the end you'll have been awed in wonder at how the whole level has been re-imagined to fit in better with Sonic's new high-speed flavour.
Now, don't mis-quote me here. Yes, it's still the Green Hill Zone, classic music and all but it's been kitted out to make it a much more fluid and fun experience. I love how the camera pans around Sonic when turning corners or bouncing off tripods. It's a refreshing take on the old level and I think many will enjoy it.
Sonic handles like a dream in the demo. He's quick, agile and most importantly still looking good for his age. Playing as the original Sonic once more was a lot of fun. With new Sonic set to show up in some of his own stages, it should lead to being a good mix of old and new for all players.
It's ashame the demo wasn't longer. I was really looking for maybe a full 3 Act demo but this shall suffice as a reasonable teaser of what's to come.
Make sure to grab the demo as it's only got a few days left. Give the Green Hill Zone a run-through for old times' sake and enjoy the nostalgia locked within.
